Vaasa has started the zoning process for a large-scale lithium-ion battery factory to be built in the town, Finnish public broadcaster YLE reports.
The town in Western Finland is currently preparing for the placement of a possible large-scale factory building lithium-ion batteries. Gaia has been involved in the process by reporting on the prerequisites and the permit process for the factory. Currently Gaia is carrying out a safety assessment for the land use planning of the proposed area. Gaia is also preparing a plan on the environmental impact assessment of the project.
According to YLE, the town of Vaasa has allocated an area of some 1,000 hectares for the factory. The area could accommodate a building covering as much as 50 hectares.
The zoning process is expected to be finished in May–June of next year, and building of could start as early as next summer.
