Close co-operation with local farmers and careful integration into corporate strategy and processes are characteristic of Felix Abba’s comprehensive CR programme, developed together with Gaia. The company brings the responsibility principles into action for example through using environmentally sound MSC-certified* herrings in their products.
Gaia worked together with Felix Abba to build the CR programme, based on indicators in line with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines. Felix Abba’s new programme emphasizes a holistic responsibility for people, the environment, procurements and products. Ensuring responsibility and high product safety along the whole food product chain is an essential part of the company’s management and quality systems. Felix Abba works with local vegetable farmers and suppliers to ensure responsible production. It aims at reducing its water and energy consumption and sewage and waste generation by at least 10% during 2011.
“We want to offer the consumer pure and safe products. The carrying principle of responsible operations is continuous improvement. We follow up our achievements and report about them to our employees, customers, owners and other interest groups”, says Ami Wardi, Managing Director of Felix Abba.
”Felix Abba’s programme is an excellent example of how a responsibility programme can be tailored in a sophisticated way to meet the company’s exact needs. A comprehensive CR programme is an integral part of the whole corporate strategy, and it can also bring about considerable cost savings. I’m also delighted with the concreteness of Felix Abba’s activities. Two labels of MSC-certified herring products, with a third one soon available, are good news for all fish lovers, and for our oceans” says Pasi Rinne, Chairman of the Board of Gaia Group.
Felix Abba is one of Finland’s leading food manufacturers with two production plants in Finland. Assortment includes well-known brands produced in Finland and by sister companies such as Abba. Felix Abba is part of the Norwegian Orkla Group.
